LATEST: Comedian BERNIE MAC has died after losing his battle with pneumonia.
The 50-year-old passed away on Saturday (09Aug08) morning at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.

News of the actor’s illness emerged last week (01Aug08), but his publicist Danica Smith released a number of statements earlier this week (begs04Aug08) playing down reports of Mac’s deteriorating health.

On Thursday (07Aug08), Smith said Mac was "in a stable condition" and was "responding well to treatment". She even went as far to predict he will be released from hospital within a matter of weeks.

But the star died on Saturday after experiencing complications from the condition, reports TMZ.com.

His representative says, "Actor/ comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital. No other details are available at this time. We ask that his family’s privacy continues to be respected." - wenn -

MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY plans to plant the placenta from the 7 July (08) birth of his son LEVI in an orchard.

The Sahara star reveals he was inspired to do something useful with the placenta after coming across a fabled tree on his travels in Australia.

The actor tells CNN medical show House Call, "That’s fertile ground, so to speak. So we’re gonna plant. It’s gonna be in the orchards and it’s gonna bear some wonderful fruit.

"When I was in Australia, they had a placenta tree that was on the river…
and all the placentas of all that tribe, all that clan - whatever aboriginal tribe that was - all the placentas went under that one tree.

"It was this huge behemoth of just health and strength. This tree was just growing taller and stronger above the rest of Mother Nature around it. It was gorgeous."

ALLEN DENIES BREAST PUBLICITY STUNT

British singer LILY ALLEN denies deliberately seeking publicity by flashing a bare breast to photographers.

The Smile hitmaker was photographed showing her breast while out in London last week (ends07Aug08).

But Allen has dismissed claims her actions were aimed at attracting attention, insisting it was just an embarrassing accident.

She writes on her MySpace.com blog: "I wore a loose fitting T-shirt. It was very hot in London and it’s no secret I don’t like wearing bras.

"My boob fell out twice and people on the blogs are saying it was a publicity stunt.

"Can I just say, I have been keeping myself very much to myself recently.

I’ve been gardening, decorating my new flat and looking after my grieving grandfather .
"If I wanted publicity, I’d be accepting invitations, not to mention money, for turning up to glamorous events." - wenn -
